The series “Wine Portraits” is a winner in the Gourmand Awards

The international competition that selects the best books on food and wine in the world recognises the quality of Maoz Eliakim's photography of the books on oenologists published by Publicacions URV

“Wine portraits”, is a series of books on oenologists from the Universitat Rovira i Virgili with photography by Maoz Eliakim and written by the journalist Ruth Troyano. The series is the 3r winner in the photography category Gourmand Awards, an international competition started in 1995 by the Frenchman Edouard Cointreau to select the best books on gastronomy and wine in the world.

The photography in “Wine Portraits” is the work of the Israeli photographer, Maoz Eliakim, a professor at the URV and resident in Reus. Eliakim photographed the oenologists Anna Espelt, Francesc Ferré and Toni Sànchez Ortiz, using his lens to emphasise the humanism, nature, individuals and landscape that surround his subjects.

Desde Publicacions URV it is particularly rewarding that this series of books, which was commissioned by the URV to raise the profile of oenologists trained at the university, should have been chosen by a panel of professionals to be a finalist in the Gourmand Awards. The books are available in Catalan, Spanish and English in printed format from specialised bookshops and as digital books online.

The series “Wine Portraits”  has been expanded with three new volumes

In the near future, Publicacions URV will present three new volumes, thus taking the series’ total up to six. The first three books focussed on different wine regions with protected designation of origin: Priorat DOQ, Tarragona DO, Empordà DO and DO Terra Alta. Continuing in the same vein, the three new volumes will offer portraits of three oenologists who work in the Conca de Barberà DO, the Penedès DO and the Pla de Bages DO.
