Faculties and departments of the Universitat Rovira <\/span>i<\/span> Virgili joined <\/span>forces<\/span> and <\/span>expertise<\/span> to develop a pioneering <\/span>teaching<\/span> tool. It is a gamified virtual simulation that will <\/span>be used for teaching<\/span> nursing <\/span>courses<\/span> and is part of the European project Envision (European Network of Virtual Simulation Online) of the Erasmus+ program. The simulation was tested for the <\/span>first time<\/span> last Friday in <\/span>a<\/span> meeting held at the Faculty of Nursing, in which<\/span> it was used by<\/span> both <\/span>students<\/span>, and<\/span> health and education professionals, <\/span>who<\/span> then<\/span> went on to<\/span> exchange experiences and knowledge. The <\/span>aim of the <\/span>day <\/span>was to discuss<\/span> doubts<\/span> and<\/span> make<\/span> suggestions <\/span>so that <\/span>any wrinkles can be ironed out<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In fact, it<\/span> is the second simulation <\/span>to be <\/span>developed <\/span>as part of<\/span> this project. <\/span>However, while t<\/span>he first one simulates home care<\/span>,<\/span> was tested <\/span>a <\/span>few months ago and is already available on the project’s website<\/span>,<\/span> this second virtual game focuses on a <\/span>paediatric<\/span> emergency. In both cases, a subjective camera is used to simulate a real <\/span>event<\/span> in which you <\/span>have to<\/span> answer questions <\/span>for<\/span> each<\/span> situation. The simulation<\/span> involves<\/span> actors, costumes, makeup and staging to make it look <\/span>real<\/span>, <\/span>and<\/span> some<\/span> professionals from the Emergency Services of Catal<\/span>onia even played a role<\/span>, <\/span>so it is not<\/span> too unlike<\/span> a short film. Both simulations will be used in the classrooms of nursing universities around the world <\/span>as <\/span>from <\/span>next academic year<\/span> to supplement<\/span> face-to-face simulation sessions.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With the collaboration of universities from Slovenia, Belgium, <\/span>Finland<\/span> and Canada, the <\/span>URV\u2019s<\/span> Advanced Nursing <\/span>research group<\/span> and <\/span>the <\/span>Applied Research Group in Education and Technology <\/span>were<\/span> in charge of<\/span> creating and developing the second simulation<\/span> with the support of the<\/span> Education Service<\/span>. “One of the most enriching aspects of the project is the collaboration of faculties, departments<\/span> and<\/span> research groups, <\/span>who have shared experiences<\/span>, <\/span>and <\/span>optimiz<\/span>ed<\/span> resources and expertise<\/span>,<\/span>” explain<\/span>ed<\/span> Dr<\/span> Leticia <\/span>Bazo<\/span>, from the Advanced Nursing research group.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As well as<\/span> the simulation, the project also includes <\/span>teaching<\/span> guides <\/span>so that it can be used<\/span>. “The <\/span>aim<\/span> is that all the <\/span>institutions<\/span> interested <\/span>in using it <\/span>will have the tools and instructions <\/span>so that they can<\/span> develop new simulation games, adapted to their needs,” sa<\/span>id<\/span> Dr Mireia <\/span>Usart<\/span>, of ARGET. The <\/span>desire<\/span> to<\/span> teach<\/span> and improve the project <\/span>lies in the will<\/span> for the project to have a long future<\/span>, and in the exchange of ideas and thoughts<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

More than a hundred <\/span>people registered<\/span> for the <\/span>session:<\/span> professionals from the <\/span>hospitals <\/span>Joan XXIII, Sant Joan de Reus and <\/span>Vall<\/span> d’Hebron<\/span>:<\/span> from the Pere Virgili Research Institute<\/span>;<\/span> nursing and education teachers and researchers from various universities, members of the <\/span>Grisca<\/span> Group (Nursing Simulation Research Group in Catalonia and Andorra), <\/span>and<\/span> students<\/span>. <\/span>T<\/span>h<\/span>e<\/span> event was divided<\/span> into <\/span>the <\/span>three usual <\/span>stages<\/span> of<\/span> this type of <\/span>teaching<\/span> project: the <\/span>prebriefing<\/span>, in which the rules and the patient’s situation and background are explained; the briefing, that is to say, the virtual game itself <\/span>on<\/span> screen, and <\/span>finally <\/span>the debriefing, the part in which the experience, the procedures used and the points for improvement are shared, <\/span>mediated by<\/span> the teacher <\/span>if<\/span> the session is held<\/span> in a classroom. \u201c<\/span>T<\/span>he activity is <\/span>enriched by <\/span>debate, reflection and practice,\u201d sa<\/span>id<\/span> Dr<\/span> Leticia <\/span>Bazo<\/span>. “<\/span>The fact that the exercise<\/span> has no penalties makes <\/span>it a very powerful<\/span> tool, since <\/span>participants can try<\/span> it several times, <\/span>giving<\/span> different answers to see the patient’s reactions… It is designed to work <\/span>online<\/span>, but also <\/span>for<\/span> classroom<\/span> discussion<\/span>“, add<\/span>ed<\/span> Dr Mireia <\/span>Usart<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
