COVID was a turning point for university life <\/span>in all respects <\/span>and, above all, <\/span>in<\/span> student mobility. Last year, <\/span>the number of <\/span>URV students who <\/span>went on<\/span> a mobility <\/span>programme <\/span>to<\/span> another university (617) far exceeded the 470 expected for the <\/span>academic year when <\/span>the pandemic <\/span>broke out <\/span>(2019-20) and this year<\/span> the number<\/span> has stabili<\/span>s<\/span>ed at 562. However, the numbers of students who come to the URV <\/span>on<\/span> a mobility program<\/span>me<\/span> had not recovered until the current year. <\/span>A<\/span>lthough the <\/span>numbers are<\/span> still not definitive<\/span>, 449 students have arrived at the URV this 2022-23, already <\/span>more than<\/span> the 391 <\/span>who arrived in<\/span> the academic year<\/span> 2019-20<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Nevertheless, these are not the only international students studying at the URV. A total of 2,123 students from 106 different countries are enrolled on the University’s campuses this year. The majority, 45%, are doctoral students, 30% are master’s students, and 8% are <\/span>stud<\/span>y<\/span>ing for<\/span> a bachelor’s degree. These figures are also higher than last year, when 2,052 students from 102 different nationalities studied at the URV.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the last few days, students have <\/span>come<\/span> to<\/span> the URV <\/span>to study <\/span>for<\/span> the second semester <\/span>as a part<\/span> of mobility program<\/span>me<\/span>s such as Erasmus+ or MOU. As usual, <\/span>the <\/span>new <\/span>students were officially welcomed <\/span>to <\/span>the University<\/span> between<\/span> 15<\/span>–<\/span>17 February <\/span>during<\/span> the \u201cWelcome Days\u201d.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

O<\/span>rganized by the International Center and the Language Service, <\/span>the Welcome Days <\/span>give the students information about <\/span>the <\/span>University\u2019s<\/span> services, <\/span>and a taste <\/span>of Catalan culture<\/span>.<\/span> N<\/span>ext Friday, they will visit the <\/span>various<\/span> university campuses.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Shiza<\/span> Khaqan is one of the international students who <\/span>took part<\/span> in the \u201cWelcome Days<\/span>\u201d.<\/span> Hailing from Pakistan, <\/span>s<\/span>he is <\/span>studying<\/span> a PhD in Humanistic Studies and <\/span>s<\/span>he values <\/span>her<\/span> stay positively: \u201cThe experience at the URV is <\/span>fantastic, you make friends and meet people<\/span>\u201d.<\/span> Sh<\/span>e also highlights the work and support of the I-Center to <\/span>facilitate<\/span> all procedures.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sharanpreet<\/span> Kaur, another student, agrees. Originally from India, she is currently pursuing a PhD in Health, Psychology and Psychiatry, and <\/span>says<\/span> that <\/span>all the administrative procedures<\/span> “ha<\/span>ve<\/span> been really difficult, but the I-Center has been very helpful<\/span>.<\/span>“<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>URV\u2019s <\/span>International Center <\/span>advises<\/span> students <\/span>about<\/span> accommodation, the health system, <\/span>and <\/span>the legal<\/span> aspects<\/span> of their stay, <\/span>it <\/span>informs them about the recreational activities <\/span>available to them<\/span>,<\/span> and it<\/span> provides them with<\/span> the URV Mentors program, in which students from the University <\/span>accompany<\/span> newcomers <\/span>during their<\/span> first days in Tarragona. Likewise, students can access the Sports services, the <\/span>Language<\/span> Service<\/span> and the <\/span>job bank<\/span>, <\/span>and <\/span>they have access to psychological care, <\/span>volunteering<\/span> and cultural <\/span>activities<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
