The Universitat Rovira i Virgili is hosting the international scientific meeting “New Horizons in Catalysis and Chemical Synthesis: The Flow of Innovation” this Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning. The event will analyse the current state of catalysis research and provide a forum for sharing the trends that will shape the future of chemical synthesis, with a special emphasis on the transfer of knowledge to industry and sustainability.<\/p>\n
Of particular note among the participating scientists is David MacMillan, a professor at Princeton University and one of the most influential chemists in recent decades. Alongside Benjamin List, he received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for pioneering the new research field of organocatalysis, a breakthrough that has expanded available chemical reactions and helped make chemistry more environmentally friendly.<\/p>\n
In addition to MacMillan, the programme features other renowned names from around the world, including\u00a0Stephen L. Buchwald (MIT), Alois F\u00fcrstner (Max Planck Institut), Antonio M. Echavarren (ICIQ) and Jos\u00e9 Luis Mascare\u00f1as (CIQUS, University of Santiago de Compostela).<\/p>\n
Together, they establish a space for scientific debate on the new horizons of catalysis, advanced synthetic methodologies, and sustainable innovation in chemistry.<\/p>\n
The event is organized to mark the 75th birthday of Professor Miquel A. Peric\u00e0s, a key figure in the development of modern catalysis and continuous flow chemistry.
