The 29th General Assembly meeting of the SGroup European\u00a0 Universities\u2019 Network has taken place at Ghent University (Belgium) and the network\u2019s Liaison Officers Meeting (LOM) has been hosted by the Belgian University of Li\u00e8ge. The events took place between 9 and 11 November and coincided with the 200th anniversaries of the foundation of these institutions.<\/p>\n
The focus of the two meetings was the social responsibility of universities. <\/em><\/strong>The conference programme was designed to provide participants with the best possible opportunity to learn, exchange, and collaborate with each other. During the LOM, there was a series of presentations on social responsibility, which was defined as the way that universities make a difference to the social and economic well-being of their communities through teaching, research, and public events and activities. At the end of the programme there was a drinks reception during which other members could network and interact with each other and discuss future collaborations.<\/p>\n The General Assembly\u2019s programme opened with a presentation by Fran\u00e7ois Th\u00e9ron, Policy Officer of the Directorate General for Migration and Home Affairs of the European Commission, who discussed EU Policy Initiatives regarding Civic Engagement. The first day of the meeting also featured presentations on the global engagement of universities, the dissemination of values and diversity.
