The International Conference: Caring for elderly and dependent people. Promoting gender equality and social justice will take place on September 12th and 13th of 2019 at campus Catalunya of Universitat Rovira i Virgili (Tarragona, Espa\u00f1a). It will bring together international social science researchers\u00a0to acknowledge the current challenge of\u00a0democratising care at many different levels of the care organisation.<\/p>\n

The conference is organized by the Department of Anthropology, Philosophy and Social Work de la URV, Universitat de Barcelona, CONJUST, l’ITA Association of Anthropology and the\u00a0Gendercare Project<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Care is\u00a0still disproportionally provided by the family and women, as the progressive and\u00a0increasing role of men in childcare is not matched by a similar level of involvement\u00a0in the care of dependent people and the elderly. Ways to enabling men to enter\u00a0elderly and dependent care is an urgent yet understudied issue.<\/p>\n

The conference invites to reflect on the current distribution of care work from an intersectional perspective in various fields, and from four thematic areas<\/a>:<\/p>\n

  1. Who cares for the elderly and dependent people in families?<\/li>\n
  2. Care as a labour sector: gender, class and foreign policy<\/li>\n
  3. Communitarian experiences of care: reproduction or\ninnovation of gender and class roles?<\/li>\n
  4. Desires and agency of care-receivers<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The reception of abstracts is open until April 30th and it is necessary to send them to the e-mail gendercare@urv.cat<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0The languages of the congress are Spanish and English indistinctly. Information on registration, symposia and conferences will be provided later. Travel and accommodation expenses will not be covered.<\/p>\n
