The congress brought together experts and researchers in forest fires from diverse countries and a wide range of different disciplines. Among the participants were <a href=\"https:\/\/lucywalkerfilm.com\/\">Lucy Walker,<\/a> twice nominated for an Oscar and director of the documentary <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/YEUiJVR9syE\">Bring your own brigade<\/a><em>;<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/patrickryanimages\/?originalSubdomain=za\">Patrick Ryan,<\/a> an expert consultant and documentalist who has undertaken projects such as <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/l7uPeu9G0kI\">Knysna Fires 2017<\/a> in South Africa; <a href=\"https:\/\/edelsonphotography.com\/\">Josh Edelson<\/a>, a specialised photo journalist and recent winner of the <a href=\"https:\/\/coveringclimatenow.org\/climate-beat-story\/announcing-the-winners-of-the-2021-covering-climate-now-journalism-awards\/\">Covering Climate Now Journalism Award<\/a> (2021) for <a href=\"https:\/\/correspondent.afp.com\/heart-fire\">Heart of Fire<\/a>; and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ctfc.cat\/personal_det.php?id=84\">Eduard Plana<\/a>, a forest engineer from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ctfc.cat\/?lang=en\">Centre de Tecnologia Forestal de Catalunya<\/a> and co-author of various guides on fire communication.<\/p>\n<p>These professionals exchanged opinions with expert engineers, geologists and environmentalists who focus their research on providing greater insight into phenomena such as the megafires that have raged in regions such as California, South Africa, Australia, and the Mediterranean basin. The session, which closed the online section of the congress, highlighted the importance of the audio-visual documentary for disseminating scientific and technical knowledge. As Enric Castell\u00f3 pointed out, \u201cWe are in a new era in which fires must be approached by the media in all their complexity. The debate during the Congress suggests that documentaries, journalism and communication are more necessary than ever.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are now witnessing a new age of forest fires, more intense and devastating than ever before.
