The QS World University Rankings by Subject reflects the performance of the world’s best universities in 55 disciplines in five areas of knowledge: Arts and Humanities, Engineering and Technology, Life Sciences and Medicine, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences. In the 2024 edition, the URV is one of the best institutions in five disciplines: Nursing, Agriculture and Forestry, Chemical Engineering, Medicine and Chemistry. With respect to the previous edition, Archaeology no longer features and Nursing and Agriculture and Forestry Science enter the ranking for the first time. Drawn up by the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) organisation, the report has examined almost 5,000 institutions of which only 1,559 appear in the rankings.
If we compare the position of the URV in the rankings with the rest of Spain’s universities, Nursing is in third position, tied with the Autonomous University of Madrid and the University of Granada. In Agriculture and Forestry, it is in nineteenth position, tied with the University of Salamanca. In Chemical Engineering, it is in thirteenth place, the same position as the Rey Juan Carlos University and the universities of Alicante and the Basque Country. In Medicine, the URV occupies the seventeenth position, shared with the universities of Alcalá and Alicante. Finally, in Chemistry, the URV appears as the sixteenth best in Spain.

Five indicators have been used to classify the universities. The first two are global surveys of more than 240,000 academics and employers around the world, who assess the institutions’ international reputation. Two others quantify the number of citations per article published and calculate the H index, which measures research productivity and impact. The last indicator reflects the institutions’ collaboration with other agents in international research networks. For more information: QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024
