On 20 May the Deputy Mayor of Györ, Dr Tivadar Somogyi, visited the URV shortly after the successful visit to the URV by Széchenyi István University. The visit was initiated by the Hungarian Consul, Barnabás Kovaks, who had already visited the URV on 9 May and given his commitment to give support to collaboration between the cities of Györ and Tarragona and their respective universities.
The modern city of Györ has a population of about 140,000, possesses good infrastructure and human capital and, thanks to its geographical location, is the centre of the most prosperous region in Hungary after Budapest.
The delegation from Györ comprised the Deputy Mayor, Dr Tivadar Somogyi, the personal secretary to the head of cabinet, Ms Petra Tibold, and the deputy chief executive, Dr Lajos Csörgits, and Ms Eszter Domanik. Together they held a meeting with the URV’s Vice-Rector for Internationalisation, Dr Mar Gutiérrez-Colón and the Vice-Rector for Scientific Policy and Research, Dr Josep Manel Ricart.
