The Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) has been placed in the 601-800 range in the 2025 World University Rankings released by Times Higher Education (THE) on Wednesday, October 9. This ranking assessed the world’s 2,092 top universities, 188 more than last year.

The URV stands out particularly in the category of research quality, scoring 66 out of 100, based on indicators like citation impact and the strength, excellence and influence of its research.

Fourth in Catalonia and seventh in Spain

Among the 55 public and private Spanish universities included, the URV ranks seventh, sharing this position with six other institutions: Universitat Politècnica de València, Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Universidad de Granada, Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, and Universidad del País Vasco. Three Catalan public universities top the ranking of the best universities in Spain, namely the University of Barcelona (149), Pompeu Fabra University (176), and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (199) followed by the URV, which ranks fourth in Catalonia alongside the UOC and the UPC.

The 2025 edition of the ranking once again highlights the dominance of British and American universities. The top five spots globally are occupied by the University of Oxford, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard University, Princeton University, and the University of Cambridge.
