URV Publications is the top university press in the field of anthropology according to Scholarly Publishers Indicators (SPI), the index that assesses the prestige of academic publishers. It has moved from twelfth position in the last edition of the index, in 2018, to third position in the ranking of all Spanish publishers with collections in anthropology in 2023.

This information system for academic disciplines is used as a reference for the assessment of researchers. In the case of anthropology, there are 26 publishers, and URV Publications is in third place behind Bellaterra Edicions and Tirant lo Blanch.

In the URV Publications catalogue, the series in medical anthropology, initiated by Professor Josep Maria Comelles and now directed by Angel Martínez-Hernáez and Fernando Vidal, has pride of place. It currently has a total of 37 titles, and one of the most recent is RESET: Reflexiones antropológicas sobre la pandemia de COVID-19 (RESET: Anthropological Reflections on the COVID-19 Pandemic) curated by Martínez-Hernáez himself and Stella Evangelidou. It proposes changes in health, education and care services and was chosen as the best monograph in the health sciences at the 24th National University Publishing Awards.

The success of the university press is the result of the work by URV Publications, the Department of Anthropology, Philosophy and Social Work and the Medical Anthropology Research Centre (MARC). In fact, anthropology is one of the areas of knowledge that has extended the catalogue of URV Publications. The first book to be published in the Research series in 2006 was Pagesos en un món de canvis (Country Folk in a Changing World) by the lecturer Montserrat Soronellas.

URV Publications is also ranked in 38th position in the SPI index in the discipline of history. Drawn up by the CSIC on the basis of surveys of university lecturers, the indicator aims to provide an understanding of the quality of academic publishers in both Spain and abroad.
