“Doctoral training: a dilemma of quality or quantity?” This will be the central theme of the annual meeting organised by the Council for Doctoral Education (CDE) of the European University Association. The meeting will take place on 16 and 17 June at the Catalunya Campus of the URV and will bring together 230 representatives of 143 institutions from 29 European countries

It is the most important international annual meeting on doctoral training. This year more than 230 people will be in Tarragona to discuss the future of doctoral training. Both days will feature plenary sessions, conferences, round tables, working groups, and time to listen to and share experiences regarding doctoral education from institutions around Europe. The talks will focus on the way in which universities ensure quality in doctoral training both now and in the future. The aim is to encourage debate among the various individuals involved in doctoral training, including university leaders, researchers, politicians, funding entities and quality agencies.

During the two days, attendees will learn about doctoral and research training policies in different European countries, the quality of graduates and institutional and governance structures. Sessions have been prepared to discuss doctoral training success stories at different European institutions.

The CDE was created in 2008 and has since held meetings in European cities of Munich (2015) Liverpool (2014), Warsaw (2013), Stockholm (2012), Madrid (2011), Berlin (2010) and Lausanne (2009).

The annual meeting of the EUA-CDE is the largest and most comprehensive event dedicated to European doctoral education. It is a chance for all those interested doctoral education in Europe to exchange ideas and experiences and to keep abreast of the latest trends and developments.
