The URV received a visit from Jeffrey Palis, director of International Relations at Lamar University. The aim of the visit was to get to know the URV and to establish a Study Abroad programme to begin in May 2017. Both universities are located close to petrochemical complexes, hence their mutual interest collaboration.
The Study Abroad programme will be administered by the URV Foundation and will enable engineering students to visit the School of Chemical Engineering (ETSEQ) to attend an intensive week-long course that will include working sessions and technical visits to industrial sites.
Lamar University is a public university located in south-eastern Texas and in recent years has been working to increase the number of its students who go abroad as part of their studies.
The visit took place on 19 and 20 September and included meetings with Josep Bonet and Allan Mackie, director and deputy-director of the ETSEQ, respectively, and Bernd Theilen, head of the Department of Economics and one of the teachers on the programme. Dr Palis also met Alexandra Godeanu and Marta Musté from the URV’s International Center to explore the possibility of establishing a mobility agreement between the two universities. The visit also enabled him to get to know the URV’s surroundings and the Camp de Tarragona region, where the students from Lamar will engage in various cultural activities.
