SouvenirArt is a competition that recognises a proposal that redefines the traditional concept of a souvenir from a creative and contemporary perspective. Promoted by the Salou-Costa Daurada Chair for Innovation and Tourism Research at URV, the URV Foundation, the Salou Tourism Board, and the Tarragona Provincial Council, this year it has reached its second edition. The winner was Helena Frías with the work ‘Salou-Modernisme Daurat’, which transforms the modernist and noucentista architecture of the buildings along Jaume I promenade into a foldable, innovative and accessible piece for everyone.

The works that took part in the competition can be seen these days at the CRAI campus Vila-seca, where the creations of 43 artists and artisans are brought together, offering new perspectives on the tourist experience and inviting visitors to establish a deeper, more emotional and meaningful connection with Salou.

A souvenir is a physical object that serves as a reminder of a place visited. However, many of those found in tourist areas reflect stereotyped images that oversimplify the identity of a destination. SouvenirArt aims to reverse this logic by proposing artistic souvenirs that, instead of perpetuating clichés, connect with the authenticity and cultural richness of the territory.
