The CRAI offers activities during International Open Access Week

This year the focus is on the economic, human and environmental costs of creating, sharing and preserving knowledge in a context where scholarly communication systems are commercially controlled

International Open Access Week is taking place from 19 to 25 October, this year under the theme “The Cost of Knowledge”. It invites us to reflect on the economic, human and environmental costs associated with creating, sharing and preserving knowledge. In a context of increasing concentration and commercial control of scholarly communication systems, the campaign focuses on who bears these costs and who benefits from them, while advocating access to and the sharing of knowledge as a fundamental right and promoting models that are more open, equitable and oriented towards the public interest.
As part of the week, the CRAI has organised several activities:
  • Open Access Corners. Themed displays at the different campus CRAI centres aimed at raising awareness of open access among the university community.
  • Opening of the exhibition “Open Access and University Publishers of the Xarxa Vives”, organised jointly with the Xarxa Vives d’Universitats. The opening will be led by José Antonio Moreno, URV Commissioner for Language Policy, Publications and CRAI, and will take place on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, at 1 p.m. in the lobby of the CRAI Campus Catalunya.
  • International Open Access Week Guide, where resources and activities related to the week will be collected and regularly updated.

The Consorci de Serveis Universitaris de Catalunya (CSUC) has also organised a series of training sessions related to open access publishing:

Finally, REBIUN (Red de Bibliotecas Universitarias) has organised an event and is also compiling the activities being held by Spanish universities.
