The Crises research group participates in a project to promote new mobility data sharing solutions

The Universitat Rovira i Virgili researchers are part of a European consortium formed by 10 European partners located in seven countries. MobiDataLab project, launched on February 1st, 2021, has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme

The MobiDataLab project aims to foster digitalisation for mobility stakeholders – such as transport organising authorities, operators, industry or innovators-.  through the development of a worldwide data sharing culture, starting with Europe. The research programme will help mobility stakeholders to optimise the use of data for the improvement of their operations and services by proposing a replicable methodology and sustainable tools.

The MobiDataLab project is based on a continuous co-development of knowledge and technical solutions for data sharing in the transport and mobility sectors. This will be put in action through problem-solving oriented Labs, the collection and analysis of advice and recommendations of experts, and supporting cities/regions/clusters/associations. They will be aided by the incremental construction of a cross-thematic knowledge base, and of a cloud-based service platform, which will coordinate access and usage of data sharing resources.

CRISES/URV’s role in the MobiDataLab project

CRISES participates in the MobiDataLab consortium, composed of 10 partners across Europe from various sectors (Industry, Research, Academia, Consultancy and Governance). The consortium shares a common view on the values and benefits of open data and open-source principles for fostering independence and uptake by communities.

CRISES will take care of the privacy and data protection issues in the project. They will ensure that MobiDataLab complies with data protection requirements, by developing and integrating the required technologies.

Led by Prof. Josep Domingo-Ferrer from the Department of Computer Engineering and Mathematics, CRISES conducts research in the field of information security and privacy, with a focus on data anonymisation, big data privacy, privacy-enhancing techniques, ethically-aligned design and ML explainability, with around 20 members including computer scientists, mathematicians, statisticians and telecom engineers. They also participate in the H2020 SoBigData++ project, a distributed multidisciplinary research infrastructure for big data analytics designed to promote large-scale, interdisciplinary social data mining experiments (https://www.sobigdata.eu), and in the BANDIT Innovation Training Network, that aims at developing an advanced platform to test real persistent threats to blockchain technology and assess the weaknesses of blockchain applications/systems as well as fostering partnership between industry and academia in a powerful emerging technology of great impact in our society (https://www.upf.edu/web/bandit).

Previously, CRISES participated in 2 H2020 projects (1 as coordinator), 3 FP7 projects and 3 FP5 projects (1 as coordinator), and they have led several Spanish and Catalan projects (always as coordinators). The group is the strongest one in its field not only in Catalonia but also in Spain. They also co-ordinate CYBERCAT (Centre for Cybersecurity Research of Catalonia, www.cybercat.eu), a new joint venture involving 6 universities of Catalonia.
