Once more the URV has attended the network’s Liaison Officer’s Meeting and the General Assembly
The 29th General Assembly meeting of the SGroup European Universities’ Network has taken place at Ghent University (Belgium) and the network’s Liaison Officers Meeting (LOM) has been hosted by the Belgian University of Liège. The events took place between 9 and 11 November and coincided with the 200th anniversaries of the foundation of these institutions.
The focus of the two meetings was the social responsibility of universities. The conference programme was designed to provide participants with the best possible opportunity to learn, exchange, and collaborate with each other. During the LOM, there was a series of presentations on social responsibility, which was defined as the way that universities make a difference to the social and economic well-being of their communities through teaching, research, and public events and activities. At the end of the programme there was a drinks reception during which other members could network and interact with each other and discuss future collaborations.
The General Assembly’s programme opened with a presentation by François Théron, Policy Officer of the Directorate General for Migration and Home Affairs of the European Commission, who discussed EU Policy Initiatives regarding Civic Engagement. The first day of the meeting also featured presentations on the global engagement of universities, the dissemination of values and diversity. The second day of the GA is always reserved for discussing and approving internal business of the network such as electing the Executive Committee or deciding on which activities the network will engage in over the coming year.
