The URV commemorates 40 years since Spain’s accession to the European Union

An exhibition and a conference examine the impact and challenges of four decades of shared history

The exhibition at CRAI campus Bellissens.

As part of the celebration of the 40th anniversary of Spain’s accession to the European Union, the Centre de Documentació Europea of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili has organised a series of events.

The exhibition “Building Europe Together: 40 Years of Spain in the European Union”, installed in the foyer of the Faculty of Economics and Business, aims to provide a concise yet rigorous overview of how the country as a whole has evolved over the past four decades, with particular emphasis on Europe’s contributions to improving Spain, as well as on the many benefits that Spain’s accession has brought to the European Union.

A smaller version of this exhibition has also been installed in all the URV CRAI libraries.

The conference “40 Years of Spain in the European Union: Leadership and Challenges”, delivered by Claudi Pérez Pallejà, is also worth highlighting.

It will take place on Friday, 17 April, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in the Main Hall of the Faculty of Economics and Business at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili.

The event is organised with the collaboration of the  Centre de Recerca en Economia i Sostenibilitat and the URV Departament d’Economia.

Claudi Pérez is a journalist specialising in international economic affairs at El País, a newspaper where he served as deputy director and head of national politics, as well as correspondent in Brussels. His experience provides a valuable and expert perspective on the European Union’s trajectory, from its beginnings to the decisive crossroads it currently faces, in the context of a turbulent international situation that presents a wide range of challenges.

Without a doubt, this will be an excellent opportunity to take stock of these forty years, analyse where we stand today and attempt to anticipate some of the key factors that will shape the years to come.
