31 Engineering students from Anna University, Tamil Nadu (India), are taking part in a Study Abroad programme at the URV between 10-27 July. The visit is the result of a collaboration between the teaching staff of this technical university and the URV (Dr Alberto Coronas) in the field of engineering.

This group of students, accompanied by Dr. Saravanan, have travelled to the URV to do the Programme of Technical Training Abroad, after completing the third year of their course at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering or the Faculty of Electric and Electronic Engineering. The Programme gives students the possibility to acquire further knowledge in their area of study through presentations and visits at the scientific facilities and departments of the Engineering School (ETSE) and Chemical Engineering School (ETSEQ), and by visiting various industries in the region.

So far they have visited the Port of Tarragona and the Perelló Wind Farm, and they attended the presentation of the Chemical Business Association of Tarragona (AEQT), IREC (Catalan Energy Research Institute) and Tarragona Smart Mediterranean City. They also plan to visit the Parc de l’Alba polygeneration plant, the Gramona winery, Repsol, Lear Corporation, Indústries Teixidó, the solar energy plant at Borges Blanques, Sener Engineering and Ecoenergia in the Zona Franca (Barcelona). The Indian students also have a cultural programme so that they can get to know the local area (Tarragona, Reus, Barcelona and Valencia).

The students were welcomed to the URV in a ceremony that took place in room 104 of ETSE-ETSEQ.

When they arrived on 11 July, they were given an official welcome by Daniel Salavera, representing the programme’s coordinator Alberto Coronas; the director of ETSE Domènec Puig; a member of the managerial team of ETSEQ, Alan Mackie; the director of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Manel Vallès; the director of the Lifelong Learning Centre, Charo Romano; and a representative of the International Centre, Susana de Llobet.
