Eleven URV disciplines are among the best in the world according to the Shanghai “Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2022”

Chemistry has once again been ranked top in Spain and Food Science is in the top seven and still in the world's top 100. A total of 54 subjects are analysed, grouped into five areas of knowledge

The URV has been ranked among the best universities in the world in 11 of the 54 disciplines analysed by the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2022 (Shangai Ranking). At the global level, Food Engineering (76-100) is in the top 100, while Chemistry (101-150) is in first position in Spain for the fourth year running, this time sharing top spot with the University of the Basque Country. Food Science is in seventh place in Spain.

In total, the ranking classifies more than 1,800 universities (out of a total of 5,000 analysed) in 54 disciplines grouped into five areas of knowledge: natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences and social sciences. This is the sixth year that the ranking has been published, and the same number of disciplines have been analysed as last year.

The results are determined by measuring the quantity, quality and impact of the research at each institution, as well as the extent of international collaboration and the number of staff awarded prizes.

Globally, the United States has most universities with disciplines in first place (32 out of 54), followed by China (15). And the best-ranked institutions and universities, Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are the ones with the highest number of top positions (16 and 5, respectively).
