The British magazine The Architectural Review awards recognise the most outstanding emerging practices in world architecture
The NUA arquitectures studio, currently led by Arnau and Ferran Tiñena, professors at the URV’s School of Architecture, has been selected as one of ten finalists worldwide for the AR Emerging Awards 2026. The awards are presented annually by the British specialist magazine The Architectural Review and have become one of the most prestigious international initiatives for promoting young talent in architecture.
For this year’s awards, NUA arquitectures have put forward three projects that have great social value and demonstrate adaptive heritage regeneration, thus responding to each of the competition’s categories:
- The Day Centre for the Elderly in Benissanet, as a completed project.
- The rehabilitation and renovation of the Bravium Theatre in Reus, as a project in progress.
- The transformation of Benissanet Town Hall, as a project in progress.
Architecture centred on people, memory and the territory
This edition of the awards places a special emphasis on practices that transform existing structures, experiment with low-carbon materials, learn from local construction typologies, and reinterpret public space for the benefit of the community. For Arnau Tiñena and Ferran Tiñena, the works they have submitted represent architecture centred on people, memory and the territory.
On 15 October, they will present their work at the headquarters of the Architectural Association in London before an international jury comprising Christelle Avenier, Hanif Kara and The Guardian’s architecture critic, Oliver Wainwright. They will be competing against nine other studios from around the world, representing China, France, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Poland and Korea.
This year the AR Emerging awards coincide with the 130th anniversary of the journal Architectural Review. The awards have kickstarted the careers of globally renowned figures such as Frida Escobedo, Shigeru Ban and Sou Fujimoto, among others.
