Ten URV researchers are among the twenty most influential in Spain in their fields of study

The University has 61 researchers among the most cited, ten more than the previous year, according to a list based on data from 2025 and published by Stanford University

Stanford University has updated its database of the most notable researchers, which it compiles using citation indicators published by each institution. The current rankings are for 2025 and show ten URV researchers among the twenty most influential in Spain in their field of study, three more than in the previous edition.

Ten URV researchers are among the twenty most influential in their respective fields of study.

Of the ten URV researchers ranked among the twenty most influential in Spain in their respective fields of study, four are in the top five. Urbano Lorenzo Seva tops the ranking in psychology and cognitive sciences, while José Luis Domingo Roig is in second place for biomedical research. In the field of communication and textual studies, Anthony Pym is in fifth place, as is Agustín Cocola Grant in social sciences.

The report conducts a dual analysis. On the one hand, it considers the career-long activity (citations received up to 2025) of 243,949 researchers in Spain, of whom 47 are from the URV. On the other, it takes into account the activity during the last year (citations received in 2025) of 249,310 researchers, among whom 40 are from the URV. Both in terms of career-long citations and recent last-year citations, the URV ranks as the second university in Spain, just behind the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. This comparison was made by counting the number of URV researchers appearing and relating this figure to the URV’s number of permanent teaching and research staff.

When compiling this database, among other factors, Stanford University took into account the order of authorship on articles and citations by authors to their own research. Each has a determining weight, the sum of which yields a reference value that ranks each researcher according to their impact, whether during the past year or over their academic careers.

In total, 61 URV researchers appear on at least one of the two lists, ten more than the previous year, and of these, 26 feature on both lists.

In terms of average age of the research staff, there is a difference of more than three years between the two lists. While the average age of the URV researchers most influential in the last year is 55.3 years, this rises to 59 years for those most influential over their entire career.
