After passing the final evaluation process with the highest possible score, the Campus of International Excellence Southern Catalonia (CEICS) has been given the definitive seal of approval that accredits it as a campus of international excellence. In 2015, evaluations were made of the campuses selected in 2010 as regional campuses in Europe. The evaluation committee made special mention of the clear vision of the URV’s internal and external challenges to support regional development in all areas (economic, social and cultural) and of the choice of specialisations, the logical actions carried out with partners, and the results that have been achieved during this period. It also made reference to the increase in the number of doctoral students, research activity, funding and reputation, as well as the work done with its various partners in terms of innovation, technology transfer and entrepreneurship.
Likewise, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Education, which promotes the Campus of International Excellence programme, has resolved the latest applications for funding to consolidate the projects of universities involved in campus of excellence projects. Almost 250,000 euros has been assigned to the CEICS. These funds will be used for Erasmus+ initiatives, a programme for doctoral students to spend time in companies and the recruitment of talent.
The Campus of International Excellence Southern Catalonia (CEICS) has consolidated the strategic partnership of a wide range of teaching, research and technology transfer structures with the productive sector of southern Catalonia in an attempt to become an international referent in its specialisations. It consists of 22 founder members and more than 100 regional collaborators and international allies. In 2010, the Ministry of Education gave the project the distinction of International Campus of Excellence (CEI) in the category of European region. This distinction underwent various evaluation processes until it was awarded the definitive seal of approval last December.
