It has been made with three dimensional models of the ear cavities by an international team with the participation of one researcher from IPHES. The study concludes that early hominids had a hearing similar to chimpanzees, but with differences that already closer to modern human. The impact of the previous study about the acoustic capabilities of the preneandertals at Atapuerca has allowed the realization of this research in Australopithecus and Paranthropus
On 28 July the Catalan Government awarded this medal to 16 individuals and 3 institutions. The medal recognises the scientific and technological work of people and entities that have made a major contribution to the development of science and technology in Catalonia
This summer three Study Abroad programmes will take place in the month of July. North-American professors will carry out a summer course in Spanish at the Catalunya campus, and students from the Northeastern University of Boston will do a course in Chemical Engineering at the CTTI and visit locally-based chemical companies. On 20 July students from the University of Cairo and the British University of Egypt began courses in Engineering and Chemical Engineering
Students and teachers from the third year of Social Education attended the event hold on the 24th and 25th of March in the Faculty of Education and Psychology.
The first group of 30 secondary school students to participate in the URV’s science workshops arrived on 29 June. In total four groups of 30 students will take part in the week-long workshops which will run until 24 July. They will participate in activities relating to science, technology and innovation at the Sescelades campus and will also be able to enjoy cultural and leisure activities

The Institute of Human Paleoecology and Social Evolution is conducting an international search for a new director after Eudald Carbonell announced that he was standing down in order to spend more time carrying out research in Africa. He will also return to teaching as a professor at the URV and will continue to play a key role in the Atapuerca Foundation
On Friday 15 May the URV awarded an honorary doctorate to Paul Preston, 69, in an academic ceremony in the Auditorium at the Offices of the Rector. The URV is the first university in Catalonia and in the Spanish State to award an honorary doctorate to Paul Preston, who was born in Liverpool and is one of the most widely respected historians of contemporary Spanish history
