Susana Borràs, appointed representative to the World Commission on Environmental Law

Until 2025, the lecturer from the Department of Public Law at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili will be one of the top world authorities on the preservation of natural heritage and biological diversity

Susana Borràs, associate professor of International Public Law and International Relations of the Department of Public Law at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, has been appointed state representative to the World Commission on Environmental Law. This position will be valid until 2025 and shared with Esteban Morelle Hungria, a lecturer at the Universitat Jaume I.

This commission is a part of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and its Spanish committee. IUCN is a union of members consisting of governmental and civil society organisations, and has the experience, resources and reach of more than 1,400 member organizations and the contributions of more than 17,000 experts. This diversity and extensive experience make IUCN the global authority on the state of the natural world and the measures needed to safeguard it.

The Spanish Committee of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (CeUICN) is the most important body of conservationist entities and public administrations in the field of nature protection in Spain. The committee was legally established as an association in 1989, and as of 2022 it consists of 48 entities ranging from NGOs to public administrations. It is recognized as a public interest entity.

Its mission is to influence, stimulate and support societies around the globe to maintain the integrity of nature and ensure the equitable and ecologically sustainable use of natural resources. The fundamental objective is to preserve the natural heritage and biological diversity.
