URV International Staff Week on best practices in comprehensive internationalization

The Universitat Rovira i Virgili is celebrating its third International Staff Week from 8 to 12 May

The participants received their diplomas during the event on 11 May.

The third edition of the International Staff Week was held from 8 to 12 May in the Conference Room of the Catalunya Campus under the title “Best practices in comprehensive internationalisation”. It is an established URV training activity aimed at professionals working in the field of university internationalisation. This year it has been attended by participants from all over the world, including Lithuania, Switzerland, Japan, Great Britain, Norway, Sweden, Colombia and Latvia. From Catalonia, in addition to URV staff there were participants representing the UIC and the UPF.

The International Staff Week uses a highly interactive and participative methodology whereby participants present and exchange experiences of good practices at their own institutions. From the URV, in addition to staff from the International Centre, there were presentations by M. Teresa Sorrosal, Inma de Molina and Teresa Mateu, Susana Borràs, María Ercilia García, Pilar Iranzo, Mario Arias and Montse Martínez.

There were two main events on the 11 May in the University’s Auditorium. These were open to participants and to the public in general and formed part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the URV and the 30th anniversary celebrations of the Erasmus programme. The first event was a presentation entitled “Comprehensive internationalization for all: critical steps forward” by Professor John Hudzik from Michigan State University (USA), who coined the term comprehensive internationalisation. Professor Hudzik was accompanied by another important expert in internationalisation, Edilio Mazzoleni, from the Università Catolica del Sacro Cuore (Milan, Italy). The second event was the presentation of the book by Publicacions URV entitled “Comprehensive Internationalisation at the URV; Examples of Good Practices at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili” . The authors of the book’s articles on best practices in internationalisation also presented their experiences during the International Staff Week. The book is edited by Mar Gutiérrez-Colón, Vice-Rector for Internationalisation at the URV.

Over the course of the week the participants were able to take part in other activities such as a visit to the Learning and Research Resources Centre on the Catalunya Campus, a guided tour of Roman Tarragona and a close-up experience with the world of human tower building.
