More than 120 doctoral students who have registered at the URV attended the welcome ceremony organised by the Postgraduate and Doctoral School on 9 February at the URV’s Auditorium. The future doctors were introduced to the University, the research carried out here, and their curriculum and research plan for the next three years
In 2016 the Universitat Rovira i Virgili’s Unit of Scientific Communication developed a new educational and communication tool: a series of 12 videos which, with the support of animated illustrations and in little more than 60 seconds, give explanations for common scientific doubts. Researchers from the University have advised on the content of these short audiovisuals, which have been posted on YouTube and are useful for explaining science to students
We interview Ana Montemayor, a student at the Terres de l’Ebre Campus and member of the Mentors URV programme, which aims to help international students to integrate quickly on their arrival at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili. Like many other mentors, Ana recommends the experience to others
Spain continues to be the top destination chosen by the young university students to carry out a mobility through this European programme. This was exposed on 19 and 20 December in Madrid at the Annual Seminar for the promotion of Erasmus+
The Erasmus+ and MOU mobility programmes bring some 200 students from around the world to the URV during the second semester 2016-17

Training course to work with families
The course was an opportunity to know a tool that may be valuable to improve social work with families
The booklet, in Spanish and English, is aimed at international visitors to the University and is the second joint initiative between the International Center and the Environment Plan
The director of the URV’s International Center has received the annual prize awarded by this network of universities since 2013 in recognition of her integrated, active, motivated and participative professional activity
An information session ons 24 October for students interested in mobility visits was transmitted to all URV campuses. Students can take advantage of the URV’s more than 700 international mobility agreements
International students participated in an environmental workshop and visited the URV’s charity vegetable allotments
The University and the CUCBA of the University of Guadalajara (UdeG) will work together to train Mexican doctoral students. During the autumn the rector of the CUCBA, Carlos Beas, visited the URV and the TecnATox research centre to work on the project for 2017
This autumn has provided plenty of opportunities for the Centre for Hispanic Studies to make contact with some Chinese institutions and to develop existing projects. In October, the URV agents for Asia, Antoni Nomdedeu and Ángel Urquizu, visited four Chinese universities
As part of the Staff Shadowing programme of the International Network of Universities (INU), last October we were visited by Alejandro Gariglio, the Design and Image Coordinator of the Directorate of Institutional Communication of the National University of the Litoral (Argentina) and lecturer on the degree in Design of Visual Communication
The ex-president of the European Association of International Education (EAIE) and head of the internationalisation project of the University of Tilburg (Netherlands), Hans Georg van Liempd, gave a lecture at the University and met with the URV’s Internationalisation Committee. We took advantage of his visit to interview him
The Catalan and the Austrian universities are encouraging students to take part in online language tandems to improve their command of Spanish, English and German. Last academic year, 15 URV students took part in the project
This year the URV has been an active participant in the annual conference of the European Association for International Education, which was held in Liverpool from 13 to 16 September
The visits are carried out in the frame of the Erasmus+ programme and help participants develop and share knowledge and experience at institutions and organisations in different countries
Another delegation from this university came to Tarragona to meet URV academics and students from their own university who are studying at the URV and to visit the URV’s Centre for Hispanic Studies
The professors Antoni Nomdedeu and Àngel Urquizu have established relations with many Asian institutions and have a comprehensive knowledge of different cultures from the continent. They have been appointed by the rector as the URV’s Asian Envoys to assist in the work carried out by the Office of the vice-Rector for Internationalisation
