The 9th Seminar of the EUA-CDE on Doctoral supervision, practices and responsibilities, held in the Netherlands saw the URV’s Postgraduate and Doctoral School playing a leading role in the session entitled Engaging and training supervisors, which discussed the process of professionalising doctoral supervision
In February, two researchers from the URV’s Centre for Climate Change (C3) attended the 3rd General Assembly of the UERRA project in Toulouse.
The items discussed during the meeting were approved by the Governing Board

On 1 February Sergio Nasarre participated in the Conference on Covered Bonds in Brussels. He was invited by the Directorate-General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union of the European Commission to give a presentation, during which he reported on the advantages of harmonising covered bonds across Europe
On Wednesday January 27th, the URV was visited by a delegation from the Université Mohamed Premier in Oujda, Morocco. The delegation was led by the head of the Department of Geology and two fellow researchers and took part in intensive working meetings with the IPHES (Catalan Institute of Human Paleoecology and Social Evolution)
The Association wishes to collaborate more closely with the URV
The collaboration between the groups of Prof. Francisco J. Andrade (URV) and Prof. Pau Ballester (ICIQ) has allowed the development of the first effective sensor for the selective potentiometric detection of creatinine in body fluids
The new association is formed by URV students and alumni and promotes knowledge of Chinese culture and language. It is supported by the Lifelong Learning Centre of the URV Foundation and the Centre for Hispanic Studies and one of the first activities to take place will be an introductory course in Chinese
The Campus of International Excellence Southern Catalonia has passed the final evaluation process with the highest possible score. An international committee has given it the definitive stamp of approval as a campus of international excellence in Europe

A delegation of Kazakhstan visits the URV
On December 15, 2015, a delegation from Kazakhstan visited URV
The professor of Computational Science and a URV ICREA researcher, Josep Domingo-Ferrer, has been appointed the new academic director of the Serra Húnter Plan, for recruiting and retaining excellent teaching staff by applying international criteria for the Catalan universities
The Jinggangshuan University (JGSU, China) and the URV have signed a framework agreement to promote exchange programmes in the fields of research, education and management. In addition, the Consul General of China in Barcelona, Mr Tang Heng, recently visited the URV in an initial meeting to establish relations
The URV doctoral student has won one of the new competitive grants awarded in 2015 by the James S. McDonnell Foundation for doctoral students who research into complex systems. For two years she will further her understanding of statistics in the United States
At the meeting of the University Senate on 26 November the committees entrusted with drafting a new scientific policy plan to substitute the one that has been in force since 2001 were constituted. The proposal for restructuring the courses provided by the faculties and school, and the reports by the Ombuds Officer and on the Quality and Equality plans were also submitted

The University of Buffalo visits the URV
From 23 to 26 November, Professor Stephen Dyson, assistant director of the Institute for European and Mediterranean Archaeology (IEMA), visited the URV in the framework of the relations established between the URV and the University of Buffalo (New York, United States). Over the course of four days, he visited archaeological sites, held working meetings and delivered a paper at the ICAC entitled “Where Caesar Never Trod: Classical Archaeology and Ideology in 19th and 20th Century America”.
On 19 November 2015, the Fundació Institut Confuci de Barcelona (FICB) met with eight public Catalan universities. The main goal of the meeting was to agree on further cooperation in the development of cultural activities and educational projects
