The most human algorithm
URV and ICREA researchers have designed an algorithm that can automatically identify mathematical models that not only improve the reliability of the predictions they make but also provide information for understanding the data as a scientist would
It has been revealed through the study of cut marks on fossils from Atapuerca and other European sites. The research has been led by Francesc Marginedas, a student of the Erasmus Mundus Master’s in Quaternary Archaeology and Human Evolution Degree at the Rovira i Virgili University
Led by the URV researcher Vladimir Baulin, this study has also discovered a new role of cholesterol that will help to understand the development of some diseases and cell processes
She is the first person in Spain to have been awarded the Snorri Sturluson Fellowship grant for researchers, writers and translators
Bryan Percy Saldivar, international fellow at the Faculty of Chemistry, aims to create a predictive model capable of suggesting the most suitable diet for patients given their health condition, that would reduce clinical screening time and cost
One in every four European LGBTIQ+ citizens has been on the receiving end of attacks or violent threats

The professor and director of the URV’s Unit of Human Nutrition is on the list of most influential scientists in the world thanks to the impact of his research, according to the list “Highly Cited Researchers 2019”
The research, led by CNIO and in which URV researchers participate, has found that the FASN enzyme is crucial for one of the essential processes by which a normal cell becomes cancerous. Blocking this enzyme in an animal model slows the onset of tumours and extends their survival
This mathematical model, developed by URV researchers, has a success rate of 75%
Researchers at the URV and UOC have evaluated the impact of these games on the learning processes of students enrolled on bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes, observing that, in addition to increasing student’s levels of motivation, these simulators also deliver improvements in terms of the learning process and skills acquired
