This meeting brings together representatives from each member institution and is held twice a year. The 22nd edition has been held at the URV as part of our 25th anniversary celebrations, on 18 and 19 September. The URV has also participated for the 7th consecutive year in the International Student Seminar organised by the network in conjunction with Hiroshima University

Another delegation from this university came to Tarragona to meet URV academics and students from their own university who are studying at the URV and to visit the URV’s Centre for Hispanic Studies
“Times Higher Education” (THE) has published its ranking of the best universities in the world. As in the previous ranking, the URV has been placed between the positions 401 and 500 out of the 980 universities that are included in the ranking. It is the same position that the URV achieved in the Shanghai ranking, in which it has been included for the first time this year
This is the first time the Universitat Rovira i Virgili appears on the ranking of the top 500 universities in the world by the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), an internationally prestigious ranking compiled by the Jiao Tong University of Shanghai
The main aim of this event was to stimulate international cooperation between the participating institutions. It was attended by 8 Dutch universities and 19 Spanish universities, including the URV. The URV’s subsequent participation in the EAIE conference, also attended by several of these Dutch universities, enabled this collaborative work to continue
The professors Antoni Nomdedeu and Àngel Urquizu have established relations with many Asian institutions and have a comprehensive knowledge of different cultures from the continent. They have been appointed by the rector as the URV’s Asian Envoys to assist in the work carried out by the Office of the vice-Rector for Internationalisation
For the fourth consecutive year engineering students from the University of Cairo have attended a Study Abroad programme at the URV which finished on 29 July. The students are assigned to three different courses at the School of Engineering and the School of Chemical Engineering
Interview to David Dueñas, winner of the URV’s teaching quality prize and researcher at the SBRlab, who went on a mobility visit to to Grigol Robakidze University in Georgia from March to April, within the framework of the Erasmus Mundus EMINENCE II Mobility for Academic Staff Programme
Interview to Sandra Plademunt, who is working at the CRAI Campus Catalunya and was awarded a mobility grant in the framework of the Erasmus+ Staff Mobility programme (STT). She visited the Technische Universität Berlin in Germany
During the visit, professor Pradeep Mathur contacted various research groups and visited their laboratories and the Scientific Resources Service. The visit concluded with a meeting with the rector and the vice-rector for Scientific and Research Policy with a view to establishing future agreements
As part of the Erasmus+ programme, the second edition of the International Staff Training Week brought together staff from various institutions in a dozen countries from 20 to 23 June at the URV’s Catalunya Campus. It was organised by the URV’s International Center, which has ample experience of strategic internationalisation plans

Increased funding for the Erasmus+ programme
The CRUE-Internationalisation and cooperation seminar (5 and 6 May) and the SEPIE seminar on Higher Education Mobility (14 to 16 June) have provided all the necessary information on changes to the call for proposals for this year’s Erasmus+ programme
The URV’s Vice-Rector for Internationalisation, Dr Mar Gutiérrez-Colón, and the Head of the International Center, Ms Marina Casals, paid an official visit to Morocco from 30 May to 4 June
This American university visited the URV with a view to signing a mobility agreement. The object of FAMU’s visit was to learn more about the URV and the region and to discuss further collaboration between both institutions

The Deputy Mayor of Györ visits the URV
The Deputy Mayor of the Hungarian city was accompanied by the mascot of the European Youth Olympic Festival which is to be held in Györ in July 2017. The visit coincided with the presentation of the mascot for the Mediterranean Games, which will take place in Tarragona in the same year
230 representatives from 143 institutions in 29 European countries have converged today on the Main Lecture Theatre at the Catalunya Campus to discuss doctoral training. The official opening of the meeting featured speeches from the URV’s rector Josep Anton Ferré, Francesc Díaz, director of the URV’s Postgraduate and Doctoral School, and Melita Kovacevic, from the University of Zagreb (Croatia). The meeting will last for two days and has been organised the Council for Doctoral Education (CDE) of the European University Association
The European Commission has awarded four million euros to the Universitat Rovira i Virgili’s Martí Franquès COFUND project, which will allow it to contract 50 predoctoral researchers. The recruitment process will take place in 2017 and 2018 and the successful candidates will have be awarded three-year contracts. The University will contribute a further four million euros to the project which will conclude in 2021
Paloma Pontón Merino has just joined the URV to promote funding opportunities for research and innovation activities, in particular from the Erasmus+ Programme
“Doctoral training: a dilemma of quality or quantity?” This will be the central theme of the annual meeting organised by the Council for Doctoral Education (CDE) of the European University Association. The meeting will take place on 16 and 17 June at the Catalunya Campus of the URV and will bring together 230 representatives of 143 institutions from 29 European countries
